The Ardeo Quartet was formed in 2001 at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSM), and today they have become one of the most highly praised French chamber music ensembles.
The perfect artistic cohesion of the quartet is based on unrelenting work and spirit of harmony between its members. The exceptional qualities of the group have been acknowledged by numerous international prizes.
Between 2004 and 2009, the Quartet was awarded the second prize and two special prizes at the Shostakovich International String Quartet Competition in Moscow, the second prize as well as the international press prize at the prestigious Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, the first prize in the FNAPEC competition, the third prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne and at the International String Quartet Competition « Premio Paolo Borciani » as well as, also in Italy, the audience prize at the Bologna festival.
The Ardeo Quartet has played in famous venues and festivals across Europe inculding : Santander in Spain, Kuhmo in Finland, Amsterdam Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, Basel Casino in Switzerland, Lockenhaus in Austria, the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival and the Bonn Beethovenfest in Germany, Youri Bashmet’s Festival Elba isola musicale d'Europa, the Bologna Festival and Amici de la Musica Firenze in Italy, Prussia Cove in England, Christmas in the Kremlin in Russia.
The Ardeo Quartet recorded their first CD, widely acclaimed by international critics, in 2007 : the world premiere of the first two quartets by Charles Koechlin. In 2010 Transart Live brought out Ardeo’s live performance of the Shostakovich quintet with the pianist David Kadouch. This fruitful collaboration gave rise to another recording, this time with Decca : the Schumann quintet in 2011.
