The Orchestra of the Swan (OOTS) is renowned for its outstanding performances, innovative programming and highly accessible presentation.
Resident in Stratford-upon-Avon and Associate Orchestra at the Town Hall Birmingham, performing regularly at major UK venues and festivals including the Three Choirs, Two Moors, Deal and Lichfield Festivals, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Warwick Arts Centre, St John’s Smith Square and the Cadgoan Hall. The orchestra has also toured Austria and Germany.
Their performances receive widespread critical acclaim and regularly appear as pick of the week in The Guardian and Daily Telegraph. OOTS is a major champion of new music, their ‘Spring Sounds’, celebrates new work with illustrated talks, interviews and late night concerts. Their 2011 Spring Sounds included 7 world premieres and 2 European premieres. Other recent commissions include work from Oscar Colomina i Bosch, Joe Cutler, Tansy Davies, Joe Duddell, Alexander Goehr, John Joubert, Joanna Lee, Peter Lieuwen, Roxanna Panufnik, Paul Patterson, Joseph Phibbs, Julian Philips, Dobrinka Tabakova, Param Vir, Andrew Waggoner, Errollyn Wallen, Shu Wang, John Woolrich and many others. OOTS’ Composer in Association is Pete Wyer.
The Orchestra of the Swan have released a catalogue of CDs, including the world premiere of the Bax Piano Concertino, other recent releases include the chamber version of Mahler’s Symphony No.4 and David Matthews’ arrangement of Berlioz ‘ Nuits d’ete. Their recording of Copland and Finzi was chosen by Classic FM as their CD of the Week
